Monkey cymbals, also known as monkey symbols or cymbal-banging monkeys, are a type of toy that depict a pair of monkeys playing cymbals. They are commonly found at carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks, as well as in children's toy collections.
The monkeys are made of various materials, such as metal, plastic, or wood, and are attached to a small platform. When the platform is wound up, the monkeys clash the cymbals back and forth, producing a clanging sound.
Although monkey cymbals have a long history as a popular toy, some people have criticized them for perpetuating negative stereotypes of monkeys as subservient and entertaining performers. In response, some amusement parks and toy manufacturers have discontinued or modified the toy.
